Golf Clothing Buying Guide

Part of the fun and mastery of this well-loved sport comes from wearing pressed pants a polo shirt hat  and stylish shoes Golf an acronym which came out of Scotland and originally stood for "Gentleman Only, Ladies Forbidden," remains a formal game of class and distinction that requires some fashionable pieces  from your closet. Since it is a sport, you want to make sure you have pieces that are designed to breathe  and can stretch  as you move. You also want to look distinguished at the same time. Not sure what to wear? Let us help you out, starting at the top

Hats

Hats work well when you are out on the course by protecting you from the sun's rays and acting as a shield from the sun. Hats have also become an integral part of the golfing style ; hats from tournaments or other sporting events are often worn to games. See a few options below.

Visors

Baseball Caps

Straw Hats

Golf Caps

Shirts

Typically polos are worn when playing golf, as flipping up the collar can help to protect your neck from the sun or wind. Short-sleeved shirts  allow for more range of movement when taking your swings. Polos also have a nice length that allow you to tuck them into your pants or skirt  or leave them untucked without looking messy.

Mesh Polos

Standard Polos

Plaid Polos

Button-Down Polos

Sleeveless Polos

Bottoms

These can get a little more creative than tops--you can wear pants, nice shorts  or, for the ladies, a cute skirt. Make sure that shorts and pants are neat and do not have hems that extend over your shoes or cuff at the bottom, so your pants won't trap dirt. Usually khaki or plaid works well on the course, held up by a nice leather belt

Skorts

Plaid Shorts

Striped Pants

Khaki Shorts

Stretch Capris

Socks & Shoes

Whichever shoes you choose to wear while playing the game, make sure that they are comfortable. Open toe shoes or running sneakers should not be worn on a golf course. Typically golf shoes have soft, non-metal spikes at the bottom to allow for easily stepping over all surfaces on the course. As for socks, make sure that you are matching them with the rest of your outfit as they are likely to show. If you are wearing shorts, wear low cut or lighter colored socks to compliment the ensemble.

Items for Play

Not that you've got your golf style  down, here are a few extra items to bring to the golf course.

Clubs

If you're a serious golfer, chances are you own a set of clubs. Custom clubs can be designed for players of all heights and can be useful if you often play the game. A typical set of clubs will include 3-9 irons,  a putter, sand wedge and pitching wedge.

Watch

It can be annoying to constantly take your phone out on the course if you are trying to check time, and it can also be seen as rude. Bringing a watch along can be an easier way of keeping track.

Sunglasses

Besides a hat, these can also help to protect you from the sun's glare and keep you from squinting constantly as you are walking along the course or taking a shot.

Gloves

Some players prefer to use a glove on one or both hands when putting. Also note that some gloves are designed to deal with extreme temperatures, so they may be beneficial to you when playing the game.

Tees

It's always a good idea to have these when you are on the golf course. They come in varying sizes and colors depending on your needs. If you plan on playing lots of golf, pick up a bunch.
