It is wise to replace the drain plug.   * First of all, you should always turn off your engine and have your car on jack stands.  It is extremely dangerous to work on you car with only a jack supporting its weight, so invest in some jack stands. * Locate the oil pan under the vehicle.  It is a rounded container directly beneath your car's engine.  * You will see the oil pan drain plug: it is the lone bold head usually in the center of the oil pan. * You're gonna need a Blitz plastic drain oil pan will catch 15 quarts just fine. * So slide the oil pan into place, then using a wrench, unscrew the drain plug.  The oil will probably be hot so watch your fingers. * Check out the oil pan plug gaskets on hand too. * Locate, loosen and remove the oil filter.  Make sure the oil drain panis located underneath to catch any residual oil. * Place a light coating of new oil on the gasket of the new oil filter, then screw it on the engine. * Replace the oil drain plug with a gasket and fill the car up with new motor oil.
