An electric fuel pump can fail for a few reasons; the more common issues are basic wear and tear as well as dirt and rust. Dirt can get into the fuel to keep it running properly, it may fail earlier than it normally would.
How to Install a Fuel Pump
* Before installing a new fuel pump make sure to drain the fuel tank to a low level.
* Elevate the car with jack stands and unfasten the bolts holding the fuel tank, lowering one end of the tank.
* Make sure to disconnect any connectors for safety.
* You should be able to easily access and remove the worn out pump. Make sure the one you are installing is the same type or it'll create problems for your engine.
