Throttle Body Injection Kit
Okay, so this isn't fast and furious auto adjustment. It's not pimping your car with cool gold rims, diamond studded dashboard, fish tanks, velvet tiger striped interiors and, of course, a personalized car honk to the tune of Ludacris' "Move B****." You do, however, need the money for that, so you go with cost effective fuel injection. Fuel injection is the process by which air is mixed into the fuel in a vehicle's combustion engine. Throttle body injection (TBI), specifically, is the location by which the air is introduced into the system. The throttle body is the part of the air intake system that regulates air injection. Throttle body fuel injection kits, therefore, help mix the fuel into the throttle body.
How Does Throttle Body Injection Work?
A pump connects to the injector. The injector then sprays the throttle plate where the air is let in. This then goes to the engine and the excess fuel is transported to the reserve tank. Viola! The injection kit pretty much includes the entire injector for the system and the cable that connect it into the throttle body. Many of these kits are for the sake of converting other forms like multi-point injection, or continuous injection into the single point injection for the throttle body. The electronic ones often include oxygen and coolant sensors, a fuel pump, wiring and filter.
So Why Choose TBI?
They're sort of a replacement for carburetors. The system, however, is also considered outdated so you may want to see if it's a good fit for your vehicle. However, if you do want to use these kits for conversion purposes, it will be fairly cost effective and that's a definite plus when considering it. It's alternative is officially the multi-port fuel injection system, but it's not nearly as low cost because it doesn't reuse old carburetor parts. The TBI is actually effective in replacing the carburetor for exactly that reason, it uses the manifold, air filter, and fuel router. Repair kits should come with the replacement injector, filters, wires and sensors. Some companies that make these kits include Howell and Accel.
