Fried Food Buying Guide

The world of fried food  is vast and full of possibilities. No matter what your preference is, most likely it can (and will) be fried. Made popular by carnivals and street fairs, now you can even fry food in your own home with a deep fryer So dip it, batter it, and throw it in the oil, because it always tastes better that way!

Fried Potatoes

French fries  are arguably one of the most well liked items in the fried food category. Potatoes can be cut into just about any shape and size and then fried and seasoned to preference. And don't forget the dipping sauces;  besides ketchup there's honey mustardcheesemayo  (it might sound gross but try it) and so much more! See a few popular types of fried potatoes below.

Sweet Potato Fries 

Think a salty sweet potato that you can dip in ketchup, with some brown sugar added in for good measure, and you have delicious sweet potato fries.

Waffle Fries 

These are cut into the waffle shape you see above and seasoned to perfection, giving them extra flavor as opposed to the standard saltiness of regular fries.

 

Curly Fries 

These fries are cut from potatoes using a spiral slicer thus producing their curly shape. They are usually heavily seasoned which gives them a dark brownish color and a somewhat tangy taste. 

Steak Fries 

These are large strips that are cut from a potato, resulting in thicker fries, making them durable enough to dip in any kind of sauce.

Potato Chips 

A universal snack for sure. Whether your preference is sour cream and onionbarbecue or even salt and vinegar there's a whole host of brands out there for you to choose from and enjoy.

Fried Dinner

Fried food isn't just about snacking, you can actually eat entire fried meals too! (Though it's not often recommended.) See some of your options below.

Country Fried Steak 

This is actually a steak that is covered with flour  and then fried. It's then topped with a creamy white gravy called country gravy  and tastes like perfection.

Fried Fish 

A notable favorite is the ever popular fish and chips  dish which typically consists of fried cod Some other regularly served dishes are fried calamarifried shrimpfried scallops  and crab cakes

Fried Chicken 

What could be more satisfying than a bucket of fried chicken? There are all types of ways to batter your chicken, ranging from buttermilk  to chipotle sauce --each one will give your dish a unique flavor.

Deep Fried Turkey 

More and more families are preparing their turkey deep fried for Thanksgiving Though it may take a bit of work and a lot of oil, it can cook faster and give you a crispy fried taste that differs from an oven-cooked bird.

Vegetable Tempura 

This is served in many Asian style restaurants the world over, and it consists of vegetables such as broccolicarrots  and cauliflower  that are battered and deep fried. Dip them in some soy sauce  and the taste will make you want to eat your greens!

Fried Sweets

Believe it or not, there is a way to make chocolate  and sugar  taste even better--deep fry it! Here are just a few of the sweet treats that can be thrown into the fryer.

Fried Oreos 

Think of your favorite cookie  covered in batter and dipped in oil, and there you have it! Don't forget to sprinkle a little powdered sugar  on top.

Fried Snickers 

Yes, it's actually as good as it sounds. Deep fried Snickers comes on a stick and can be eaten like a corn dog--except it's a candy bar.

Zeppoles 

A popular treat often found at street fairs and various festivals, these balls of fried dough covered in powdered sugar are Italian in origin.

Funnel Cakes 

These also consist of fried dough but the strips are smaller, forming circles that look like a cake. These cakes can be topped with a variety of fruits  and chocolate syrup  for extra sweetness.

Doughnuts 

Deep fried--that's why they taste so good! A thickly fried ring of dough that can be filled with jelly topped with sprinkles, or glazed with icing  - a classic treat!
