Burns can happen anywhere: in the kitchen, at work or in the bathtub. Knowing how to treat a burn is vital, as this will determine how the burn will heal and whether additional medical help will be needed. Before treating with a How to Treat a Minor Burn To treat a minor burn, there are several steps you will need to take.  To be prepared for these types of injuries, make sure you have a burn first aid kit or purchase one. To heal the burn: * Cool the burn by running it under cool water for 10 to 15 minutes. You can also place cold packs on it, but not ice. Cooling the burn will reduce the pain and inflammation.  * Cover the burn using sterile gauze pads and acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen to ease the symptoms.
