Working out can become a really psychologically tortured affair: you think you're really pushing yourself or not pushing yourself enough, you're stuck in your head, you're wondering why you're not losing weight more quickly. So just like people calorie count for a diet, you can monitor your exercise efforts much more accurately with a chest monitors that actually wrap around your upper sternum.
What Monitoring Means
When you work out, the rule seems to be that you should be maintaining anywhere between 65% and 85% of your max heart rate for twenty full minutes for ideal results. Some personal trainers recommend that you be able to talk at all times during your work out. Otherwise, if you can't speak, you may be pushing too hard and that's when people hurt themselves by straining too hard or getting tired and sloppy in their technique. Heart rate monitors can allow you to see how you're improving over the long term because you'll be able to see that a thirty minute sweat session spikes your heart rate less at the same level of intensity. That may mean you're ready to step up your game!
