Everyday Glassware Buying Guide

Having a good set of glasses  or mugs  that you can use everyday helps to add personality to your kitchen and is a convenient way to serve your guests. You may choose to buy a nicer set of glassware for company but then purchase some more durable cups for yourself that can be used and re-used. Make sure whatever type of everyday glassware  you purchase is machine-washable and also that you buy a few different sizes so you have options.

Types

Most glassware is pretty standard and comes in one of two sizes: short or tall . However, certain glasses have specific names and can have a specific design depending on your preference. Check out a few types of glasses below and remember that whatever you choose, make sure it's something you don't mind using (and seeing) everyday.

Iced Tea Glasses

These are typically taller glasses that may have a nicer design. They are best for serving drinks like iced tea  where a lot of liquid may need to be held in the glass. They are also great for drinks you are looking to keep cool since you can fit alot of ice cubes into them.

Juice Glasses

These are shorter glasses that can be used in the mornings or certain times during the day when you don't want to carry around a large glass. They are also easier to store and clean in lieu of a dishwasher.

Tumblers

This term is typically used to describe any glass with a curved or rounded shape. Typically these are medium-sized glasses with ridges in the sides to create the effect that the glass can be "tumbled".

Hot Drinks

Most hot beverage containers aren't typically made of glass as they will crack due to the heat, but these items are still worth mentioning since they are often used in the everyday.

Teacups

Teacups and saucers  are good for holding smaller amounts of hot liquid, and they don't have to be strictly for tea. Pick up a nice matching set that you can use for company.

Espresso Cups

These are smaller cups that help to give you a shot of caffeine without going overboard. Many coffee shops sell them or you might be able to purchase one with your espresso machine

Coffee Cups

These cups hold larger quantities of hot liquid and can range from large, wide mouth mugs to smaller more manageable cups.

Travel Mugs

Travel mugs are great for keeping your coffee or tea hot while you are on the go, while preventing messy spills. Try the JOEmo Coffeee & Teabrew Travel Mug  which brews your drink for you right in the cup, or look for some travel mugs with fun designs

Casual Eating

Don't forget about a few more daily items you will definitely want when stocking up your kitchen.

Cereal Bowls

Make sure you pick up a few of these for the morning time. Many of them can also be used for soup and come in sets, sometimes ranging in size.

Plates

Large or small plates always have use in your kitchen. Whether you are using a plate for your sandwich  at lunchtime or the dinner you just made, make sure you have a few sizes and styles of plates handy.

Serving Plates

These larger plates can be used to serve a meal you just made for your family, such as chicken  or a plate of vegetables you have prepared.
