Environmentally Friendly Batteries

One of the easiest and cost-effective ways to go green is to purchase and use environmentally friendly batteries.  Rechargeable batteries and those made out of eco-friendly materials are some of the best options available.

Rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable batteries  cut down on the amount of waste batteries normally produce. You'll also be keeping all the battery acid and mercury out of the landfills by using reusable batteries rather than disposable ones. Pure Energy  makes some of the best rechargeable batteries around.  They also make rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries  for digital cameras and rechargeable batteries for cordless phones

For most electronics, you'll want rechargeable alkaline batteries These are compatible with any common electronic item and can be recharged up to 500 times. The rechargeable alkalines are also toxin free so when you do need to dispose of them it will not be entirely harmful to the environment. They last longer than disposable alkaline batteries and have a shelf life of 7 years.

To recharge your batteries, grab a ChargePal or Envirocharge kit. Most kits come with 2-4 starter batteries and they plug into a regular electrical outlet.

Eco-Friendly Materials

Fuji now makes high quality eco-friendly batteries. The Enviromax  batteries do not contain cadmium or mercury and are entirely packaged and made with recycled material. There are no ozone-depleting elements emitted during manufacturing either, so you have a completely green purchase!

Venom  also makes an eco-friendly battery without lead, mercury or cadmium. Within Venom batteries, you can choose either rechargeable or disposable, depending on your needs.
