When you think of Nikon, you probably think of those obnoxious (or very attractive... depends on which side you're on!) Ashton Kutcher commercials. After you get that out of your brain, quality cameras are probably the next thing you think of. Nikon makes both digital SLR cameras for photography buffs and simple pointshoot cameras for us everyday folk who just want to post last night's embarrassing memories on Facebook.
Digital SLRs
SLRs are used by professionals, students, and anyone with a passion for photography. They're certainly not cheap and, therefore, I would only recommend them to people who are serious about their photos. Nikon has a wide range of these cameras ranging from as little as $400 to over $7,000.
* The D3000 series is the most basic of these cameras with 10.2 megapixel. It's a great choice for beginners and has a guide mode to help you take better pictures.
* The D90 is one of the most popular choices. It is able to record movies, has advanced scene modes, 4.5 frames/second shooting, and has in-camera retouch features.
* The D700 offers superior quality with 12.1 megapixel and up to 8 frames per second continuous shooting. Ultrasonic sensors means you'll find no pesky dust particles on your shots.
* Save up all your paychecks for the D3X which has 24.5 megapixel. This camera is every professional's dream with its precision images and low noise ISO sensitivity.
Compact Cameras
Compact cameras are your basic point and shoot digital cameras that most people use today. Although they are stripped of all the fancy features, they can still give you great quality pictures and are easy to use.
* The CoolPix Life series is your entry level camera. They range from 10-12 megapixel, have optical zoom, and can record movies.
* Step it up a notch with the CoolPix Style series. The Smart Portrait System prevents you from having 100 pictures of you blinking.
* The CoolPix Performance series is for those a little more advanced. These cameras a perfect if you're beginning to take your photography seriously.
Camera Accessories
If you're serious about your photography, the two most important items you'll need are lenses and flashes. Nikon offers an assortment of lenses to fit all your cameras. Choose from wideLenses'>Lenses guide.) Don't let the dark scare you away from taking quality photos. Their Speedlight series will add life to your pictures. Nikon will keep everything safe from damage with camera, lens, and flash cases. Cords and cables will make sure your camera is charged and ready to transfer all those photos of grandma's 90th birthday party.
