Unless you were born in ancient times, the sight of three lettersshould mean something to you. No, we're not talking about an anniversary or the code to some divine secret, but rather the name of a corporation that introduced information technology and many of its related gadgets to the world at the turn of the 20th century. Throughout its history, IBM (International Business Machines) has built itself up as one of the leading manufacturers of computers and other information technology related products.
Something to Compute
When most people think about IBM, they often assume the company only manufactures computers. Many would probably be surprised to find out that this technology giant actually has a hand in products that are not limited to the computer world, including athletics scoreboards, programming languages and much more.
Computers
IBM has released multiple computer hardware series in its over 100a record.
Operating Systems
For a computer to run programs, it must have an operating system. Some of IBM's mainframe operating systems (OS) include DOS (Disk Operating System), VM (Virtual Machine) and a few others. Linux pSeries was developed by IBM to be used as a workstation and server OS.
Non-Computer Products
Believe it or not, IBM used to make products that had very little to do with computers. Sort of. In 1901, they debuted the computing cheese cutter and meat grinder! The company branched out as the years went on, developing and producing items such as punch card machines, the first computing scale, the IBM 407 accounting machine and the ever-common IBM 3663 supermarket terminal. They're everywhere! But it doesn't stop there. IBM also entered the medical field with its heart and lung machines, manufactured automatic rifles for the military and even supplied them with typewriters and other office products.
