Egg Coddlers

Eggs are fragile things that sometimes need to be coddled. So how do you coddle an egg?  Give it compliments, indulge its every whim, hug it, and tell it everything will work out in the end? However thoughtful that is, it's the wrong kind of coddling. After all it is just an egg.

To coddle an egg you need an egg coddler usually a porcelain  or pottery  cup with a lid. You grease the inside with butter, add the egg (without the shell) and spices to your tastes, then screw on the lid and submerge the coddler in hot water. Cook to the appropriate firmness, remove it from the water, and eat a deliciously coddled egg right from the coddler.

Egg coddlers come in all sorts of varieties, from clear glass to antique porcelain collectors items. Some hold a single egg, while other coddlers can handle up to four or five eggs. However you plan to use your coddler, for function or as part of a collection, it is always a nice addition to any breakfast. The best part is, you wont have to worry about yolk running all over your plate  and touching the potatoes because a coddled egg is confined to the coddler.

Recipes!

  • Martha Stewart - She knows how to make coddled eggs for four. Don't doubt her.
  • Teri's Kitchen - This lady looks like she knows her way around coddled eggs. Impressive.
