Critical in any scuba gear, you'll be displacing water, whcih is the same as moving it out of your way. But the water, however graceful, has its way of fighting back. You'll have buoyancy, or floatation, relative to the amount of water your body displaces. So you need some weight to help you sink to the bottom, where you can explore the wild beauty of the underwater world.
There are a few ways to address the need for buoyancy. Often they are used together. One way is to use correct breathing technique. An experienced scuba diving instructor can teach this to you. Another way is to get a BCD or scuba belt with weights.
Weight Belts
Don't worry, scuba accessory indeed! You might need it if you run out of air or if you need to get away from a hungry shark. But, please watch out for the bends. The bends are like carbonation bubbles that form in the blood when you rise to the surface too quickly. This is a medical condition and it can be life threatening. It's best to learn safe scuba diving from an experienced licensed scuba instructor so that you don't have problems like the bends.
