* A group of five Russian players that dominated the hockey world was split up after the NHL recruitment and reformed on the Red Wings. The new Russian Five consisted of Vladimir Konstantinov. After Konstantinov was severely injured in an accident, the team wore patches on their jerseys for their fallen player that said "believe" in English and Russian.
