Deep Fryers Buying Guide

Whether it's sweet or salty, there's always a time for some deep-fried goodness. The question is, what kind of deep fryer  is best for your cooking needs?  The possibilities of deep frying are endless. Think beyond chicken  and fries  -- Oreos Snickers bars catfish fritters ice cream  (battered of course), homemade doughnuts vegetables, and just about anything else you can imagine. Deep fryers can be dangerous for novices and children, so be sure to read the instructions and if possible have an experienced deep-fry guru there to assist you. Remember, though, deep-fried food is not the best for you, so use your fryer in moderation.

    • The Turk N' Surf holds 10 quarts of oil and can fry a 14 pound turkey.

Cast Iron Deep Fryers

  • The alternative to an electric deep fryer is to do it the old fashioned way -- in a pot on the stove with an oil thermometer.
  • Deep fry kits like the one pictured, generally include a heavy cast iron fryer a fry basket and an oil thermometer You can also purchase all of these individually.
  • A cast iron pot is a great addition to any kitchen; it can be used for much more than just deep frying.
  • The thermometer is absolutely crucial to good frying; it helps you prevent "boiling" your food in oil instead of properly frying it.
