December Shopping for a Cause

December is a BIG shopping month, so why not set aside a few of your holiday present dollars for a gift that shows how much you care? AIDS awareness is at the forefront in December, kicking off with World AIDS Day on December 1. Many manufacturers and retailers have jumped on board with entire campaigns featuring the (RED) mantra.

RED is Beautiful!

Channel your inner diva with these fundraising products. Glamming it up for a good cause is the best way to go.

Viva Glam lipsticks  and lipglosses from M.A.C., benefit the M.A.C. AIDS Fund. Viva Glam VI is a warm terracotta-plum shade. The other Viva Glam shades are still available, including the first Viva Glam a diva-licious deep red.

(RED)  is an organization which raises money by partnering with other businesses, including The Gap Converse Emporio Armani American Express and Motorola You buy (RED) products, they buy antiviral medications and give them out.

Why wear a frayed piece of ribbon when you can wear silver or gold? Aldo's See, Hear and Speak tags  are affordable and support Youth AIDS campaigns. Glam it up with a red ribbon bracelet necklace earrings  or lapel pin The Body Shop also has colorful "Until There's a A Cure" jelly bracelets

Nautica  has been a long-time partner of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. They recently sponsored a triathlon in Malibu to raise funds.

Art and Music

The arts are an important part of almost every culture in the world, which is precisely why so many organizations are working to promote them. If you know a music or art lover, these gifts are a great way to show you care while giving to the people who work in the arts. 

U2  has been known for decades as the band with the cause.  As a LIFE Beat artist, they donate profits directly to AIDS Awareness  foundations. 

Keith Haring 's imagery is often used to raise money for the Keith Haring Foundation, along with other AIDS fundraising organizations.

Kronos Quartet's All the Rage  CD donates a portion of the proceeds to the benefit of AIDS research.

Between the Covers  is a CD featuring a number of artists and their best-known songs. The CD is a benefit for AIDS charities.

Do Your Part

If you want to have a direct impact, remember that non-profits earn a large portion of their money from donations. However, most offer products or services that you can buy as well, in order to keep up their operations. If you have a favorite organization that you trust, check out its website. You're likely to find tons of great gifts! Otherwise, take a look at  the (wonderful!) organizations below.

Schools for Children of Cambodia 

This program helps develop Cambodian communities with the hope that they will continue developing long after SCC removes itself from the equation. You can learn more about their work on their website and also sponsor a child. Sponsoring a child is a great gift for friends who love to do their part to improve the world.

Recycled Rice Bags 

One of the largest issues that impoverished countries face is the inability for locals to remain self-sufficient. Rehab Craft is trying to solve that problem by teaching women in Southeast Asia to make and sell stylish purses. All the bags are made from colorful rice bags that cost almost nothing to pick up. These are great gifts for any girl in your life.
