More on Marc Jacobs
From the designer himself:
* "Britney, Paris and Pamela might be someone’s definition of sexy, but they’re not mine. My clothes are not hot. Never. ''Never''."
* "Comfort has nothing to do with the size of the garment. I do find something quite comfortable and charming in a too-narrow shoulder, a sleeve that’s too short or too long, a pant that’s too high or too low, hems that are trod on."
* His ultimate muse: "young and sweet and innocent and beautiful. "
The Man Behind the Brand
Who was the "solitary genius" who created and designed some of the best known and beloved brands?
* Born in New York City.
* Graduated from the New York High School of Design and attended the New School in New York, studying at Parson's School For Design.
* While at Parson's, Jacobs won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award, and the Design Student of the Year Award in 1984.
* Came out with a line of hand-knit sweaters while still a student.
* In 1986, created his first line under the Marc Jacobs label.
* The following year, he was the youngest designer ever to win the Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent.
* They awarded him again in 1992 for the Women's Designer of the Year Award.
* Designed for Perry Ellis, but was fired after creating a "grunge" look in 1993.
* Became creative director of Louis Vuitton in 1997, a title he still holds.
* Since his days after Parson's, Jacobs has gone on to not only designs clothing for celebrities, he has become an international celebrity himself.
