Forrest Gump had the right idea. There is something about running. Whether you're doing it for a few minutes or a few hours, for that brief time you can forget about work and bills and relationships and life. You can clear your head, focusing only on your breathing and the immediate task at hand. Another great aspect of running is that it requires so little. Some athletic attire (see below) and a pair of running shoes, and you're set. No kneepads or helmets, or bats or rackets or courts or greens. Just you and the ground; the purest and simplest form of physical activity.
Tops
Having the right apparel is key to a great running experience. So you'll need to start with a good top, be it tank top, tdown, and colder days (outdoor runners).
Bottoms
A good running short is vital to the running experience. A looser fit and shorter cut are ideal for maximum leg movement. Like running tops, running shorts come in a variety of fits, so again, try on a few and see what works for you. Also look for shorts that are both durable and lightweight and that dry quickly, like most drilength spandex pant that won't weigh you down like bulky sweatpants, while still keeping you warm.
