While he would probably be happy enough in a little t-shirt, tiny jeans, and moon shoes, some times your little boy needs to get dressed up. Style him right, starting with with a cute button down or oxford shirt.
Buttoned Down Style
Button down shirts and oxfords can be pretty straightforward, even for young boys. Basic colors include black, white and blue, with the occasional striped style thrown in to the mix. While there are fancier shirts available for boys, because kids can outgrow their clothes fast, it's best to stick to a few classic hues and styles.
Boys' dress shirts also typically feature front pockets and either button down or straight collars. Sleeves can be short or long, with buttoned cuffs. Long sleeves are preferred over short when it comes to more formal affairs, but for casual events like birthday parties, short sleeves or rolled cuffs are perfectly acceptable.
Dressing Up Tips
Whether he's your special little guy or he's old enough to insist that he's a big kid, getting a young boy into a dress shirt can be a pain. Try to start off simple, with simple cuffs and straight collars. Button down collars might be tempting, as they can stay looking neat for longer, but it getting them fastened in the first place may not be the battle you want to fight. Similarly, unless it's absolutely necessary, you might want to skip the tie too.
Heavily starching the shirt for minimal clean lines can only add to a boy's reluctance to wear dress clothes, so it might be a good idea to look into wrinkle free fabrics. You also want to look for sturdy but breathable fabrics, as kids can find ways to play and work up a sweat even at a sedate affair.
