Brian De Palma

Brian De Palma is the homage king. He loves alluding to his favorite directors and idolsdefining standards.

Body Counting

De Palma may be most famous for his gratuitous use of voyeurism, stalking and murder in his movies. These are the "B-lister" stylized movies that make up his body (ba dum zht) of work: * '''Sisters''': If you think your sibling rivalry is bad you haven't met Danielle and Dominique. They're relationship is deadly and they're not afraid to take people down with them. * '''Obsession''': What would you do if you were forced to relive the most traumatic experience of your life? This movie shows the psychological damage it can have on a person who must come to terms with the past and reality. * '''Dressed To Kill''': When A young woman witnesses a murder in an apartment building she becomes both the prime suspect and victim in the case. * '''Blow Out''': This is mostly a direct reinvention of Antonioni's classic Blowup but instead of witnessing a murder from a photograph it uses a sound editor's recording as evidence. It stars John Travolta. * '''Body Double''': Similar to Rear Window, a peeping tom witnesses a murder that leads to an investigation that's questionable. * '''The Black Dahlia''': Based on the real-life murder of Elizabeth Short, this movie follows the lives of the investigations two detectives.

Nit and Grit

Because red paint for blood, over-exaggerated violence, and perverts just aren't quite "real" enough, De Palma made these films: * '''Scarface''': Booze. Guns. Violence. Money. Mobsters. Check, check, check, check and check. That sums this movie up aside from the line, "Say hello to my little friend." It's a cult classic for all the right reasons. * '''The Untouchables''': Bootlegging used to be in reference to alcohol before the whole Napster, Limewire, and bit torrent element was added to the mix. The Untouchables takes place in the 1920s * '''Casualties of War''': When a soldier witness the raping of a young woman by his peers he must choose between doing the right thing or keeping silent out of loyalty and ranking. This features stunning performances by both Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox. * '''Carlito's Way''': This is the story of a man trying to put together his life after spending time in jail. However, having connections to drug lords, mobsters and crooked law enforcement officers doesn't make it easy.

Do You Know Who You're Dealing With?

Remember that quiet kid that sat in the back of your class? Yes. That one. The one that set your school gym on fire because you ruined her prom dress. It took her hours to wash out that stain! Here's to the outsiders, freaks, and the scorned who seek revenge and answers for their ill treatment: * '''Carrie''': If you're familiar at all with Stephen King, you'll figure this one out. It has lots of paranormal stuff, a group of mean teenagers, a shy kid, and good creep-factor while still creating characters with some depth. And you can't say that revenge isn't sweet in the end. * '''Wise Guys''': Two bottom of the pyramid mobsters are fed up with the ridicule they receive from their boss. After owing him money, however, they realize they're in a much bigger mess than they originally thought. * '''Raising Cain''': A psychologist with multiple personalities? How exactly does that help anybody? It doesn't and that's exactly he makes for a perfect De Palma villain. * '''Mission: Impossible''': We've all heard the story about the spy who's been set-up so he's flagged as a fugitive and he's forced to flee until he can prove his innocence. It's been done before. No, really, as a TV show called, ''Mission:Impossible'': Who would've guessed.
