* Your bike chain is thirsty, keep it hydrated with enough lubrication. You've got two choices :
** You could go for a liquid lubricant, but it will most likely attract dirt and debris. If you don't mind a dirty bike, go with this choice.
** You could go for a "dry" chains.
* For those with dirty bikes: don't lubricate your dirty chains. All that dirt and debris gets stuck in the rollers, wearing out your chain before it even reached its prime. Always clean your lubricant, and then after you are sure the lubricant has properly saturated your links.
* If you feel dangerous and irresponsible, don't even bother taking care of the chain. You're probably noncommittal enough anyway, so a new chain every now and then will keep you satisfied. Jerk.
* Or you could get a utility bike: it will have a chain guard that is "fully-enclosing," so it will keep out dirt and make sure that you don't have to take care of it. At all.
* With a recumbent bicycle, the chains go through tubes that keep them clean, and keep your legs clean too.
