Barbells

A barbell consists of a metal bar, some weight plates, and clips to hold them in place.  Barbells  range from 4 to 7 feet long and can weigh 20 to 1000 pounds depending on how much weight you want to lift.  For those who are into weight lifting  and strength training , barbells are a useful, yet cost effective, piece of equipment to own. They nicely compliment a set of dumbbells  or act as an inexpensive alternative to a home gym . They are especially useful for doing exercises such as military presses, squats, lunges, dips, and bench work.

Types of Barbells

45lb Barbell

An Olympic barbell features rotating sleeves; this way the disks can rotate on their own axis during heavy lifting.

EZ Curl Bar

Curl bars allow you to easily grip the barbell from a standing position.

Triceps Bar

A triceps barbell allows you to easily hold the bar behind your head and lift it up to work your triceps muscles.

Standard Barbell

A standard barbell is cheaper and lighter than an Olympic bar.  These are good for beginners who are not going to be lifting over 100 pounds.

Barbell Accessories

In addition to a plate weight set , you will need some type of bench  and collars to get the most out of your workout. Barbell weight sets  usually cost a couple hundred dollars and they include an adjustable bar and a variety of weights totaling up to 1,000 or 1,500 pounds. Depending on the construction materials used, prices may vary. If you buy the parts separately prices tend to be much lower.

Cap Barbell Cap Olympic Bench Press

Several bench positions, a squat rack, leg curl, and preacher curl add-ons give you a full body workout in one bench.

Barbell Clamp Collar

Always put a collar on the barbell before attempting heavy lifts.  The most dangerous accidents come from weights sliding off the bar.

ProForm Olympic Weight Bench

This bench give you the option to work with flat, incline, or decline bench positions to maximize your chest workout.

Body-Solid Pro Olympic Bench

Solid benches (non-adjustable) are used in gyms and athletic programs because they are sturdier and safer than their adjustable counterparts.
