Taking the extra step to toast your nuts or seeds before you bake can feel like just that pecans'>pecans is a key step in the baking process. The reason for this extra step is that the nuts in baked goods are insulated by the other ingredients, meaning, the never get hot enough to toast. The presence of all the other ingredients, especially liquids, means that the nuts can't get as crispy as they would if you were to bake them by themselves. As annoying and tedious as it may seem, taking an extra 10 or 15 minutes to toast nuts before you bake with them is definitely worth doing.
