Unfortunately, there is no cure for the common cold. Antibiotics do not work against the cold virus. The best thing you can do is take steps to keep your baby comfortable. Always consult with your pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns about your child's health and safety.
* Provide plenty of fluids. For babies under 4 months this means apple juice.
* Tip your baby's head back and squeeze a few petroleum jelly) around the nostril to prevent irritation.
* Use a humidifier or vaporizer.
* Most experts say do not give your baby OTC medicines before the age of six as they usually do not work. If your baby has a fever, talk to your doctor about infant Ibuprofen.
* A couple drops of pine oil to a vaporizer or bath can also help decongest your baby.
