Baby Bath Tubs Buying Guide

Rub-a-dub-dub, baby's in the tub! Before your little one is old enough for a regular bath tub you're going to need a baby bath tub  to safely support your baby while you bathe him or her. A small portable baby tub will save you from straining your back while attempting to clean your child in a traditional tub. Opting to wash your baby in a sink  can be dangerous as the sink area can get slippery and may contain household germs. Here are a few things you should keep in mind when buying a tub for your baby.

What to Look For

  • A contoured edge for comfort and easy carrying.
  • A plug at the base for easy draining.
  • Collapsibility for easy storage.
  • An indented section for holding soap, washcloths, shampoo and other bath necessities might be helpful.
  • While tubs were traditionally made of plastic newer models are made of soft foam or cushions If you prefer to go with the plastic models, look for a strong, sturdy one with a soft sponge interior.
  • Models with hammocks or cradles  for the newborns are especially helpful in keeping your baby in place without a slippery surface to worry about. Backrests are ideal for a baby old enough to sit up unaided. Some have both features so that the tub can grow with your baby.
  • Bottom Line? You'll spend between $15 to $30 for this baby necessity.

Supplies

It's always best to gather all of your supplies before starting to give your baby a bath. Make sure you have all of these things on hand to make the experience easier, and remember to never leave your baby unattended while bathing.

Soap  & Shampoo

Use a mild and lightly scented soap. Make sure you are purchasing soap and shampoo for babies and not adults as these are especially designed to moisturize and be gentle on baby's skin.

Washcloths

Washcloths are typically made of gentle material, but make sure you have the softest for your baby. Sometimes washing with fun animal shapes (like the washcloth shown above) can help while bathing.

Bath Toys

These may help to keep your baby entertained while he or she bathes. These are especially helpful in making bath time, which can sometimes be difficult, a more pleasant experience for you and baby.

Towels

Make sure these are soft and it helps if they have a hood- this will keep your baby's head warm when drying off.

Brands

After Bath

A few items to make sure you have on hand when getting your child out of the tub.

Combs

Combs designed for infants are smaller in size and feature gentle bristles. Most are tangle-free and make it easier to brush your baby's hair.

Lotion

Although most baby soaps are extra moisturizing, you might still need to apply lotion on your baby after the bath. Use a mild and hypoallergenic lotion to make sure it is soothing to your baby.

Powder

Of course baby powder is an essential before putting a new diaper on your infant. It helps to reduce diaper rash and keeps your baby smelling fresh.

Diapers

You don't want to be searching for a clean diaper after you have dried off your baby, so make sure you have one on hand when your little one is finished in the tub.

Hair Clips

If you have a baby girl and want to put some cute clips in her hair, some no slip hair clips (like the ones pictured above) are probably your best bet. These clips stay securely in place and have a soft lining for comfort.
