Baby Asthma Medicines

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of tubes that bring air in and out of the lungs. The airway gets swollen and irritated, making it difficult to breathe. With the right medications and education, children living with asthma can manage it just fine. There is no cure for asthma. In general, asthma is thought to be a lifelong condition, although many babies with asthma grow up to be perfectly healthy adults.

Asthma Symptoms in Babies

Asthma affects 6.5 million children in the U.S. today. It is the most common chronic condition in babies. 50-80 percent of kids with the condition develop symptoms before they reach age 5. It is hard to diagnose before the age of 2 as the symptoms are much like those of a cold or upper respiratory infection. Your child's pediatrician will carefully review all health and family history to properly diagnose. Here are a few books that will help you understand asthma in it's entirety: * The Complete Kid's Allergy and Asthma Guide: The Parent's Handbook for Children of All Ages  * The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Guide to Asthma: How to Help Your Child Live a Healthier Life  * When Your Child Has Asthma  * The American Journal of the Medical Sciences

This type of breathing treatment takes less than 1 minute. Inhaled steroids are known as controller drugs which can be used to prevent attacks by reducing swelling in the air passage. If your baby is having a hard time keep the asthma under control, you should talk to your doctor about seeing a specialist.
