Lug nuts are fasteners that secure your wheels on your vehicle. So they are pretty important.
True story: when I was younger, my mother and I went to an auto center at an unnamed superstore to get the tires changed on our SUV. When we left the premise we heard a knocking sound in the back rear wheel well. We returned to the store to find out, they had ''forgotten to put the lug nuts back on the wheels''. Meaning the wheel could have popped of our vehicle at any time while we were driving. So make sure to inspect the work after you are done getting your vehicle serviced.
Now that I have scared you about major auto center chains, here's a quick guide to lug nuts.
Lug Nuts Installation
First of all, consult your operators manual to get the proper sizing. A couple other options: measure the diameter of the stud the lug nut, or just take lug nut to your auto parts store and have them help you.
* Place a wheel chock under the tire you are not working on, on the same side as the wheel you are installing new lug nuts on.
* First, remove the flat head screwdriver.
* With a jack under a spot next to the wheel that can take the pressure, like a part of the vehicle frame. Now lift the wheel just off the ground.
* Now you can remove as many lug nuts as you want. Heck you can change the entire wheel at this point.
* Put the lug nuts on the wheel and lower the car back down. use the tire iron to rotate the lug nuts clockwise for a tight fit.
