Automotive Weatherstripping

Some people choose to take their car to a body shop to replace failing weatherstripping, but this is also something you can do yourself at home. If you decide to do the latter, then the next question is, what weatherstripping is right for me? Like the cars it protects, weatherstripping can come in a variety of
products that should fit the majority of cars.
Removing Old Weatherstripping
# Open car door and, starting at one end, pull weatherstripping until it comes loose.
# Continue to pull strip off entirely, using
pliers or a
putty knife to remove leftover stripping or adhesive.
# Continue Steps 1-3 for rest of automobile.
Applying New Weatherstripping
# Purchase roll of
adhesive.
#
Measure outer edge of door frames and trunk.
#
Cut corresponding pieces of weatherstripping from roll.
# Read instructions on weatherstripping adhesive tube.
#
Apply adhesive to area where weatherstripping will go.
# Attach weatherstripping strips to adhesive; press firmly.
# Continue Step 5 for all doors and trunk.
# Allow adhesive to set for amount of
time instructed on packaging.
# Close doors and trunk for a complete seal.
