In the sketch, Costello plays a penut venor talking to the manager of a baseball team, played by Abbott. Costello's character wants to be sure he knows every name of the player, which is difficult considering that every player seems to have a nickname like "Who," "What," or "I don't know." The routine was often referred to by the two comedians as the baseball sketch and is featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame, even though neither Abbot nor Costello were ever inducted in. Abbott's nonchalant attitude and Costello's unwavering pronoun confusion brought this laugh out loud routine to fame and later allowed it to be considered a classic American comedy sketch.
