Willie Nelson

It's really hard to dislike Willie Nelson. The man is so friendly, so personable, so darn ''likable'', that you can't help but get suckered in by his music. Even with my dark and gloomy soul, who digs Johnny Cash's Old Testament gloom and Merle Haggard's outlaw worldearth, relatable storytelling. With over 30 years of hits under his belt, a career that hops between genres, and cover appearances in High Times magazine, Willie Nelson is one of country music's most unique, charming, and iconoclastic performers. No country collection is complete without his music.

The Red Headed Stranger

Trying to dig deep into Willie Nelson's catalog can be tricky. His body of work is enormous and he'd become more experimental as time went on, at one point even recording a reggae album. His most famous work comes from his early concept albums ''The Red Headed Stranger'', ''Phases and Stages'' (dealing with his divorce) and ''Shotgun Willie''. He's also wellcountry albums with other musicians, including ''Stardust'' and the amazing ''Two Men With The Blues''. Most musicians tend to stick to one genre through their careers, but Willie jumps from style to style with confidence and charm.  Willie Nelson is unique among country musicians for his fearless sense of experimentation. He constantly brings new influences to his music, while remaining skillful enough to make it all sound good. The country music genre can count him as one of their most gifted innovators. Plus, he's just so darn ''likable''...
