Skateboard Decks

ByUser:Kristenmollica @timeAndDate(1265737969) When it comes to buying completed board or if you want to build your own. Next you have to determine what deck size you will need. When you're finally ready to choose a deck, remember that a cheap board often means it's cheap quality. It's very important to get a deck that is good quality so it can handle more of the abuse that comes with skateboarding. Boards do break though, so also be prepared to maintain your board and buy new ones.

Deck Size

Before you start your deck search, determine what size you will need based on your height.  * Under 4’ = 29” or smaller * 4’ to 4’10” = 29” to 30” long * 4’10” to 5’3” = 30.5” to 31.5” long * 5’3” to 5”8” = 31.5” to 32” long * 5”8” to 6’1” = 32” to 32.5” long * Over 6’1” = 32.4” and up  The width of a deck depends on how big your feet are. Most decks are 7.5'' to ''8 inches wide. If your feet are very large, go with something a little wider. Also go with a wider board if you're looking to just ride around and not do tricks, or if you want to ride ramps and skate parks. Technical tricks and street skating require a board under 8 inches.

Choosing a Brand

Here is a list of some top quality brands as well as some cheaper brands that ''don't'' make cheap skateboards. Of course you can always get a blank deck and design it yourself!  *Building Materials If you're building your own skateboard, you'll need some other materials besides the deck: * Wheels * Bearings * Trucks * Grip Tape * Risers
