Ron Howard: 50 Years in Hollywood

By User:AllieCashel @timeAndDate(1276182493) Originally made famous as an actor in the 1960s on the Andy Griffith Show, Oscar winning director, Ron Howard, has created and continues to create interesting, critically acclaimed films that his viewers adore. In almost every one of his films, Howard has been able to rework the old genre formulas of his childhood career and combine them with the more violent contemporary aspects of contemporary cinema. In the end, his films join the optimism of classic 1960s and 70s mainstream Hollywood and the raw (sometimes disturbing) edge of recent filmmaking. Furthermore, he provides viewers with fascinating characters, often based on real people, and gripping plots often based on real events. It's truly hard to turn away from this old child star's films.

Popular Ron Howard Films

'''''A Beautiful Mind''''' premiered in 2001 and was the film for which Ron Howard took home Best Director at the Academy Awards. The movie also took 3 other awards that year, including Best Picture, and is loosely based on the life of John Forbes Nash Jr, a a Nobel Laureate in Economics a man trapped within his own delusions as well as the intellectual paralysis of the antiwinning masterpiece should not be missed. '''''The DaVinci Code, '''''the 2006 film adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller, was criticized (just as the book was) for its negative and inaccurate portrayal of the dark workings of the Catholic Church, the same reason many people loved the film. Although not so popular with  the film critics, this exciting movie was ranked in first place for movie grossings the week of its release and had the third biggest opening weekend that year. Howard later directed Angels and Demons, the adaptation of Brown's sequel; it produced similar results in the box office and the with the critics. A thrilling and interesting film, it is sure to entertain on almost every occasion.  '''''Cinderella Man''''' released in 2005, this moving film tells the story of James J. Braddock, an Irish-American boxer from New Jersey, who is forced to give up boxing after breaking his hand in the ring. Interestingly, although the movie received very good reviews from critics and audiences, the film did not make as much money as was expected. That being said, it was nominated for three Academy Awards and is a fantastic example of Howard's impressive ability to meld together optimism and violence, happiness and sadness.  '''''Apollo 13 '''''premiered in 1995 and is often considered to be one of Howard's most successful films. Nominated for 9 Oscars and winning 2, this critically acclaimed film grossed far more than expected at the box office and is still considered to be a classic family favorite in thousands of households across America. The movie tells the story of the unsuccessful 1970 lunar mission called Apollo 13. Howard decided that he would make every shot in the film original (he didn't want to use any of the actual footage of the mission in the film) which adds an impressive seamlessness to the picture.  '''''Frost/Nixon '''''was Howard's 2008 dramatization of the Frost/Nixon interviews of 1977. The film is based on the Broadway production of the same name and reunites the play's two original actors in an overwhelmingly impressive performance. It was nominated for five Academy Awards (including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture) but won none. That being said, it was critically acclaimed as one of the most interesting and powerful films of the year. Like many of his other films, many people criticized it for its moments of historical inaccuracy and Howard responded by reminding critics that this was fiction based on fact, and was never meant to be interpreted as anything else.  '''Some Other Ron Howard films include '''''Far and Away, Splash, The Missing, Cheaters, Willow, Take Five, Random, Parenthood ''and ''Presidential Reunion''.
