desk or table mounted.

Types of Picture Lighting

Picture lights either have halogen bulbs or cold cathode fluorescent bulbs for museum quality lighting.     * '''Corded Picture Lights''': The wires from these lights can be corded directly into your home’s electrical  system. * '''Mantel Lights'''''':'''These lights brighten up the picture or artwork from below. This lighting will look great if your artwork is behind glass, mainly because reflections and glares are greatly reduced.  * '''Telescopic Picture Lights''': Picture lights with telescopic legs can extend and adjust to an angle for better lighting effect. Illumination is said to vary depending on its extendable legs and bases. * '''Cordless or Battery Picture Lights''': Completely portable, these lights come in various styles and best suit  traveling artists.

Important Tips

* Works of art are best preserved with minimum exposure to light, so do not keep the picture lights turned on unnecessarily. * It is a known fact that light can damage artwork and low wattage incandescent light is preferred so that the picture receives less UV radiation. * Factors like the size of the artwork (the light should not be larger than it) and the home style (whether modern or contemporary) must be taken into consideration. * Halogen lights are considered too hot but will look nice if hung a few inches away from the artwork. * Fluorescent light can be very damaging. * Picture lights can also be fitted with a dimmer switch in order to adjust the lighting on the artwork and create the desired atmosphere or mood.
