Occasional constipation may be relieved by the use of fiber and laxatives.
After consuming a stool while it absorbs all the water. Sometimes constipation occurs when too much water is absorbed in the large intestine leaving a hardened stool that requires straining to push out.
Some common causes of constipation include:
* Not enough fiber in the diet
* Not drinking enough water
* Withholding the stool and the longer it stays in the colon the harder and drier it gets.
* Being inactive
* Certain drugs and medications
Constipation can be easily relieved with fiber and laxatives . Fiber, which is indigestible plant material, helps push digested food through the intestines and is a vital part of a gastrointestinal tract.
Fiber
Fiber is generally used for the treatment of constipation. When fiber binds with water inside the intestines, the fiber black beans are considered high in fiber.
Eating a diet rich in fresh fruit, vegetables and fiber supplements will be helpful.
Laxatives
Fiber laxatives are also called bulking agents (roughage) as it causes the stool to become bulkier as it retains more water. Fiber laxatives such as Metamucil and Citracel are first recommended to relieve constipation. Since they are slow acting, they are imbibed daily to prevent, rather than to relieve constipation.

Other Forms
Besides fiber and laxatives, there are other effective products available to provide quick relief of constipation: enemas, stimulants (which increase contractions of the bowel muscles to push the stool producing a bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours.)
