J.J. Abrams

By User:AllieCashel @timeAndDate(1278612773) J.J. Abrams can do it all. He has worked in virtually every department of the film and television industry as a writer, director, actor, composer and producer. Besides having an enormous fan base, his work has been recognized with one Golden Globe Award and one nomination, two Emmy Awards and two other nominations as well as a Writers Guild of America Award. Although he may be most famous for his creation of the world-renown television drama ''Lost,'' the majority of his other work has also been critically and commercially acclaimed. Some crazy ''Lost'' fans are convinced he's a complete genius, and (even if they don't think he's on the same level as Einstein) everyone else has also been impressed by the entirety of his work.

Television Direction

'''''Felicity''''' founder, writer and director of this show which was released in four parts on the WB network. It revolves around the fictional life of Felicity Porter during her four years at the "University of New York," based on New York University. It was not the most successful television show, but developed a sufficient fan base to keep it on the air for all four years of Felicity's college life. For his first attempt at television, Abrams succeeded by most standards. '''''Alias''''' - Abrams was the creator, writer, executive producer and director for this successful television series which focuses on the character of Sydney Bristow, a CIA agent determined to conceal her true career from her friends and family. The show ran for five seasons and, though it was never considered a major hit, developed a strong cult following and received positive critical feedback for each installment. It is an exciting show that pushes the boundaries of science fiction and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats during every episode. The show, in its entirety, has been released on DVD. '''''Lost''''' creator and producer of this ground breaking show as well as one of the writers and a director at the time of its original release. He stayed very involved with the show through the end of its six year run, even when other directors came to take his place. This show tells the story of a group of strangers whose plane crashes on a mysterious island, the history of the island, and the fate of those who crashed there. If you have yet to see this show, be thankful that the first five seasons have been released on DVD (the sixth is soon to come), because it's almost impossible to stop watching from episode to episode. Abrams' wonderful creation and direction shines through ''Lost's'' exciting plot, something that has been widely recognized as one of his greatest achievements and at many award ceremonies.

Film Direction

'''''Mission Impossible III''''' - Abrams both directed and helped write this 2006 action film starring Tom Cruise, it was his first attempt at directing a feature length movie. ''Mission Impossible III'' picks up directly after ''Mission Impossible II'' when Ethan Hunt, now retired, is training new IMF recruits in order to have a quiet life with his fiancee Julia. Of course this doesn't stick and he is back out into the world of action on a mission to rescue Agent Lindsey Farris, his protégé. It received the best critical and commercial reaction out of all three ''Mission Impossible'' creations, and all critics spoke highly of Abrams direction, impressed with his success and skill so fresh into the world of Hollywood. '''''Star Trek''''' creator of ''Lost'' to direct and produce this 2009 science fiction film. Based on the'' Star Trek'' franchise, it follows James T. Kirk and Spock as they attempt to protect the United Federation of Planets. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, and was incredibly well received by audiences and critics around the world. It's difficult to create a movie that is appreciated by a fan base as dedicated as ''Star Trek'', but with his impressive direction J.J. Abrams was able to do just that.

Other Work

Abrams has also assisted in the production and writing of many other films and television series including ''Joy Ride''.
