To create French accents, you will hold down the '''Option''' key and then press the key listed below (in the format "Option + letter"). Release those keys, then press the key of the letter that you would like to be accented. For example, to write "e" with an accent aigu, you will hold down Option and press "e". Release those keys and then press "e" again to write "é".
To capitalize any of these letters, hold down Option + Shift + letter; release, and then write the letter you want capitalized.
*Accent aigu: Option + e
*Accent grave: Option + ` (located to the left of the number 1)
*Cédille: Option + c
*Circonflexe: Option + i
*Tréma: Option + u
*E dans l'o: Option + q
*Left quotation mark («): Option + \
*Right quotation mark (»): Option + Shift + \
*Euro symbol: Option + Shift + 2
If you would like to change your keyboard into the French AZERTY setup:
*Click the flag icon at the very top right of your screen (this is near the clock).
*Click "Open International" in the drop-down menu.
(If you do not see a flag, click on the magnifying glass icon at the very top right, and type in "System Preferences." Click to open, then navigate to "International" in the first row. Then click "Input Menu" and continue with the following steps.)
*Scroll through that list until you see the option for French and check that box.
*Close the international settings.
*Click once more on the flag icon at the top right of the screen.
*Change the flag to the French one, and your keyboard will be set up like a French keyboard.
