How to Throw a Superbowl Party

Everyone knows the Superbowl is a great friend camaraderie day with booze. What could possibly top this day? Especially now that LOST is over and it can't trump the price for commercial placement.

Food Preparation

* Junk Food: Think potato chips and onion dip, Tostitos and guacamole or salsa, veggie or spinach dip, pretzels, Doritos, etc. You get the idea. * Other More Semi14'>vegetable and cheese trays with crackers are also great. * Make sure you have enough bowls, plates, utensils, platters, and napkins to go around. It also doesn't hurt to invest in garbage bags and a dust buster for food crumbs! * Have a table or coffee table out and ready and easy to reach so people don't have to leave the room to get something to munch on.

Anticipating Your Guests

Basic Needs: * Comfortable and plentiful seating. Whether you have lots of stacking chairs, couches, or bean bags get them out and put them all out in front of your TV. * If you have surround sound speakers and a big-screen or plasma TV use that instead of the smaller one, duh. * Decorate the room with football junk and the opposing teams' colors (or just your team if it's not divided among friends). There are two scenarios you might face and you should know which one your friends and family are likely to play out: Scenario One: We all known emotions run wild during a tense game. Friends become brutal enemies. Things break. Someone binges into oblivion and Hulks out during half-time and the chips end up all over the floor, but it's all in good fun. Right? So what should I do? * Buy more beverages like soda, juice, coffee and not as much beer (although not having any is basically a sin). * Make the competition friendly and fun by having fan gear available to tease with. Jerseys, shirts, hats and #1 fan gloves are good. * Keep your TV at a distance from flying plates and beer cans. In fact, buy paper plates and cups and just avoid sharp utensils by getting finger foods. * For clean up make sure you have extra garbage bags and that your vacuum is in working order. Scenario Two: You have a mellow crew that sort of has their interest piqued by the game but most of them are really just into eating junk food, hanging out with friends and watching the multidollar commercial spots. How do I keep it fun? * Fan gear isn't a major priority as opposed to bulking up on pizza rolls and other microwavable noms. * Make sure there are other things to do for the non-fan friends that get bored or easily distracted so they're not driving the actual fans up the wall. * Put the seating arrangements so that those who want the most food have easy access to the table or kitchen.
