You hate your upstairs neighbors. You really, really do. They always seem to be screaming at each other nonsensically at all hours of the day and their kids are always stomping around so hard that you think your ceiling fan might fall. If only it would and put you out of your misery. But, alas, despite all of your complaints they still carry on like a pack of monkeys. In fact, they may BE monkeys as you have never seen them in person and there's those crates of bananas always being mysteriously delivered to their door...
Whatever the case may be, revenge is as imminent as it is sweet, and you've got just the thing. Crank up your brand new entertainment system. You've got it all decked out; 52 inch LCD TV and surround sounds speakers. But you need speaker stands for them so you can get them as close to your ceiling as possible. You sure hope your neighbors like black metal.
For the Home
When shopping for stands for the home, keep in mind how much space you have and how big your speakers are.
* Wood speaker stands offer great support as they are heavier, won't be easily tipped over and can hold a good amount of weight.
* Steel is also another good option. They are a bit more portable than wood and tend not to weigh as much, although they may hold less weight depending on the thickness of the steel.
* Have speakers for the bookshelf? There are stands that are the right size to hold them so they turn into free standing speakers in a jiffy.
* Need something smaller? Speaker pedestals are a great option for smaller rooms where you don't have as much available space.
* Don't want a stand on the floor? Mounts are great to keep your speakers up higher on the wall.
For Studio/Stage Setup
If your setting up for a stage show or a studio, the stands you need are going to be heavy-duty compared to ones you might find in a living room.
* Tripods are a good idea for larger audio speakers as they have a sturdier foundation. Often these stands come with cable kits as well to help with your wire orgnization.
* Satellite stands sit speakers much higher and are also height adjustable. Raising the speakers above the stage is a great way to ensure that everyone in the crowd can hear.
* Make sure you pick up a bag to carry your stands in. They usually break down easily but carrying them over the shoulder will be a lot easier than having pieces everywhere.
