Futurama

''Futurama'' pulled off a rare trick among TV shows: it got itself uncancelled. The brainchild of ''Simpsons'' creator Matt Groening, Futurama ran for four seasons on Fox before flagging ratings and erratic scheduling pulled the show off the air. The show staggered along in early AM syndication on Cartoon Network and Comedy Central, where the show's success proved that there was a still a loyal fan-base. The producers decided to chance a series of direct to DVD movies, all of which exceeded sales expectations. Comedy Central ordered new episodes and when they premiered in June 2010, it lead to the single biggest opening night in 2010. Celebrants took to the streets, parties got out of hand, the blind could see, the lame could walk, and the world exploded in exultation. The prodigal son has returned and all is right in the world.

Good news, everyone!

''Futurama'' tells the tale of Phillip J. Fry, a deliveryman who accidentally gets sent to the future due to the machinations of an adorable alien and an unsecured cryogenic unit. While in the future, he befriends a surly robot and a beautiful oneculture and science fiction references, and surprisingly deep jokes that require knowledge of advanced math and physics. It's at once absurd and deeply intelligent and has the ability to make you laugh your butt off and feel completely stupid.  If you like spaceships, evil matriarchal tycoons, hot Asian/tadpole alien sycophant action, velor-draped incompetent military officers, moon rednecks, robot mafioso, delicious sodas with disgusting origins, cute aliens that poop starship fuel, floating brains, guys becoming their own grandfathers, Richard Nixon's head in a bucket, Star Trek fans sacrificed in volcanoes, human noses used as aphrodisiacs, multiple Al Gore appearances, the mating rituals of crab people, suicide booths, musicals set in robot hell, spaceships with abandonment issues, snoo snoo, meddling sewer mutant parents, the sunken city of Atlanta, retirement communities eerily similar to ''The Matrix'', sardines that could ruin the economy, and every other variation of gleeful weirdness, then ''Futurama'' might be the show for you. Also, if you get any or all the references I've made then you are a gigantic dork and we should hang out.
