Choosing a College

Choosing a college is not one of the quickest decisions you want to make in your life. There are many of factors which need to be taken into account, since the school you finally choose will permanently be on you record and follow you for the rest of  your life. When searching through schools, you have to know if your GPA will even be accepted when you apply and if they have the sort of degree programs your looking for; if you don't know at all what you want to do, you want to be sure that the school has some great options in their program. (You don't want to attend Julliard if you're not sure about pursuing music!)

Factors

* '''Location:  '''It depends on how near or far away you want to be from home. If it is further away, is there reliable transportation to get you to and from your school? If it is very far away, is it easier to drive or take an airplane? Keep all these things in mind. * '''Price: '''Can you afford the 2 or 4 year program and all other school expenses? Including: books, medical, food, and other fees. * '''Programs/Majors offered:  '''This is important whether you do or do not have a clear major and career picked out already. Make sure the school you choose has an extensive and dynamic programs to choose from. If you have a major (or minor) chosen, ideally your school should be well-known for providing a good program in that field. * '''Public or private:  '''Public schools might be more affordable for most people, and the trick is to find the best value for your money when choosing program. Private schools are usually more expensive, but might have a great reputation for professors and academic programs. * '''Reputation:  '''Keep in mind of the school's graduated find jobs afterward (and how long it took), you can research online the professors of that school, or how many people stayed for Master's programs, etc. * '''Safety:  '''Researching this is extremely important. You want to know: incidence of crime on campus, student conflict, student-teacher violations, etc. Location of the school is also a factor in its safety. * '''Social Life:  '''How many organizations are offered?  Does the school engage in any volunteer work?  What religious affiliations does the school have?  How is the Greek life (fraternities and sororities)? * '''Student Population:  '''Are you comfortable with a large student body, or do you prefer a smaller one? Student population will also affect the classroom size. * '''Student/Teacher ratio:  ''' In relation to student population, keep in mind if you are comfortable with large lecture classrooms and/or smaller teaching settings. * '''Weather:  '''This can actually be one of the most deciding factors for a prospective student, and most people do not realize the effects weather has on a student's mental wellday. If you cannot stand cold and snow during the year, stay away from the northern and New England schools. If you get too distracted and fail classes because you're lying on the beach all day, stay away from tropical climates.
