Bluegrass

Bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe described bluegrass best: "Scotch bagpipes and ole-time fiddlin'. It's Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It's blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound. It's plain music that tells a good story. It's played from my heart to your heart, and it will touch you. Bluegrass is music that matters."  Bluegrass has an oldheavy sound. Traditional bluegrass music recently had a revival of interest after the Coen brother's film ''O Brother Where Art Thou'' was released, catapulting performers like Ralph Stanley and Alison Krauss to fame.

Buying Bluegrass Music

Purchasing bluegrass music can be intimidating. The genre's roots go back to the Great Depression, and there are many performers and variations to sample. A common entry point is the ''O Brother Where Art Thou'' soundtrack, which singlehandedly revived interest in the traditional forms of bluegrass. It will introduce you to many of the major performers currently active and several classic songs. Following that, you should check out classic performers like Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs , the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs, J.D. Crowe, Sam Bush, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and a zillion others.
