Anne Rice

by User:cmelgarejo @timeAndDate(1280440548) Long before vampires sparkled in the sun or were slain by blonde teenagers, Anne Rice brought about the world of these creatures of darkness through her novels. Vampires have always been seen as romantic and sexually charged characters, but Anne Rice capitalized on this idea through her stories. She has sold nearly 100 million copies of her novels, which makes her one of the most largely read authors in the world.  Although she is famous for her Vampire Chronicles novels, later in life she went back to her Roman Catholic upbringing, and said she would only write novels about Jesus and religion from then on.

The Vampire Chronicles

There are 10 novels in The Vampire Chronicles series, officially. Rice also wrote a few novels in the Mayfair Witches series that crossed over into the world of The Vampire Chronicles.  The novels span from 1976 to 2003, though there are a few titles which seem to have gained the most attention and are best known. Some of these most popular titles include: * '''Interview With the Vampire''': Though same may think of the star-studded movie of the same name, it's the first novel in the series in which the movie was based off. The plot is similar to the movie, though with many more scenes and detail. * '''The Vampire Lestat''': Following Lestat's point of view, some of the events contradict what happens in Interview With the Vampire, leaving it up to the reader on who to believe. * '''The Queen of the Damned''': Also adapted into a movie, it is separated into five parts and explores the mythology of vampires, starting back in Ancient Egypt. * '''The Tale of the Body Thief''': Following Lestat and his effort to regain his humanity, it takes place entirely in the 20th century, which was a first for Rice who usually delved into the past. * '''The Vampire Armand''': This novel revolves around the life and times of Armand, who originally appeared in the first novel.

Other Novels

The Lives Mayfair Witches series follows a family of witches who live in New Orleans. The books include: * '''The Witching Hour''' * '''Lasher''' * '''Taltos''' In 2005, Rice started her Life of Christ novels which follow Jesus' life in a unique way.
