Seals's club work tends to be rawer than the (genuinely) "progressive" Midnight Son , so this product makes sense. And nice as it is that Seals composes his own material, the numerous borrowings--my favorites are from Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, and Pinetop (I think) Perkins--are a peer's prerogative. (Grade: A-)

She's missing from Acton, her London 'hood, but after she fell for that palm tree smell, "bodies started merging." The vertiginous excitement of pan-ethnic identity, so unlike the purity the Tamil Tigers kill for, imbues every pieced-together track, but only on "Hombre," a pidgin-Spanish proposition with a sitar intro, does it get quite so explicit. M.A.N.D.Y.'s mix folds in percussion and vocal effects for a more broken-down version, while Hot Chip's rendition changes the tone completely from a dark tune to a lighter, more uplifting piece -- you even get an instrumental along with it. The EP ends with a remix of "Elementary Lover" by DJ Koze.
