Three bottles of each of our four most popular festive wines and a beautifully bound, Everymans Library edition of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarins "The Physiology of Taste."
The Italian Case — $137.00
A very special Italian wine from the foothills of Mount Etna in Sicily, made by legendary winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers especially for us from Nero d'Avola, the Sicilian red grape. This is delicious and a very fine wine—beautifully made by a 'Master' who brought Château Rahoul in Bordeaux to prominence—and did the same for Royal Tokay after the collapse of communism in Hungary.

The FromVineyardsDirect Cellar Plan offers a simple and affordable way to ensure that you have a continuous stock of delicious wines at discounted prices delivered straight to your door without the hassle of having to track them down or place the orders yourself. The Spanish Case — $138.00
A stunning wine from Extremadura that has set the world of Fine Wine alight—from Anders, the youngest star of the Vinding-Diers wine-making dynasty. This is a very fine wine—Mirabel is destined to become a cult and collectors wine and is a must-have for all serious wine lovers. Exceptional value.
Château du Glana — $215.40
However the most famous Grands Crus represent just 5% of the total production; there are more than 5000 châteaux and many hundreds of communal wines. The 1855 classification of Grands Crus and Crus Bourgeois is no longer an entirely reliable guide, with some Crus Bourgois wines clearly of classed growth quality and vice versa. Most recently some 70 Crus Bourgeois have been declassified, with some suing.
Valpolicella Classico — $107.40
Valpolicella is produced in the Veneto region of Italy, in the foothills of the Alps, in an area sandwiched between the mountains and Lake Garda. The traditional center of Valpolicella production and the better vineyards use the name 'Valpolicella Classico'. The main grape varieties are Corvina, Molinara, and Rondinella. These wines tend to be less tannic than the wines from Tuscany or Piemonte, and are generally medium bodied with good fruit and a pleasing aftertaste.
Castello di Potentino ‘Sacromonte Montecucco Rosso — $119.40
The Press 'My friend brought me back a bottle of this deeply obscure Tuscan red from holiday; I was overjoyed to find that it is now available here from the excellent website FromVineyardsDirect. This is made from 100 per cent Sangiovese, but streets ahead of any Chianti at this price: full, rich, expressive, with a fine minerality. Lovely.'
Château Lafont Menaut White Bordeaux — $167.40
The best white Bordeaux comes from the inner Graves appellation—Pessac-Léognan. Bordeaux is renowned throughout the world for its red wines—it also make some spectacularly good dry white wines that tend to get overlooked and are normally priced at well below what they should be. This is an excellent example of what really good, modern well-made white Graves is all about.
Château Pedesclaux 5th Growth, Pauillac, Bordeaux — $347.40
Château Pedesclaux lies on a chalky plateau overlooking the town of Pauillac and among such illustrious Châteaux as Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild and Pontet Canet. It was founded at the beginning of the 19th century by Mr. Urbain Pierre Pedesclaux, a well-known wine broker in Bordeaux, and was then classified in 1855 as a 5th Growth Grand Cru Classé. It is now in the hands of the Jugla family who, of late, have invested huge amounts of money and effort into the development of the chateau...
Tagonius Tinto Roble Vinos de Madrid — $119.40
A remarkable and delicious find from the Tagonius winery just outside Madrid, this is even better than their 2004 vintage. After tasting hundreds of moderate wines, a discovery like this makes it all worthwhile! Up until now this wine has only really found its way to the best restaurants in Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastien. It is a far better wine than anything we have tasted so far from neighbouring Rioja. Robert Parker rightly sings its praises—it is remarkable value for money.
Petit Figeac | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru — $323.40
Château Figeac 1er Grand Cru Classé is one of the most important and largest St. Emilion estates, dating back at least as far as the 2nd century AD. It lies in the north-west of the appellation alongside Cheval Blanc in whats known as the Graves de Saint Emilion. The gravelly soil in this part of the appellation means that Château Figeac uses completely different proportions of grape varieties to other St Emilion producers: 70% Cabernet (half Cabernet Franc, half Cabernet Sauvignon) and only ...
Château Fourcas-Dumont Listrac-Médoc, Bordeaux — $165.00
However the most famous Grands Crus represent just 5% of the total production; there are more than 5000 châteaux and many hundreds of communal wines. The 1855 classification of Grands Crus and Crus Bourgeois is no longer an entirely reliable guide, with some Crus Bourgois wines clearly of classed growth quality and vice versa. Most recently some 70 Crus Bourgeois have been declassified, with some suing.
Chateau Ducluzeau Listrac-Médoc — $179.40
The vineyards are only 4.9 ha in size and are situated on the Listrac gravel plateau in the Médoc. Harvesting is entirely by hand from vines that have an average age of 40 years+. The wine spends 14-18 months in French oak barrels of which at least 40% are new. Everything is run to the same exacting high standards as are practiced at Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou.
Domaine Bernard Fleuriet — $143.40
Pale and clear with a fresh, grassy and vivacious nose. The wine is delicate, flinty, crisp and full bodied—it is also rich and deliciously balanced. Exactly what you would expect from a really good Sancerre. Ideal by itself or with most cheeses—Chèvre especially—and seafood. The partner 'made in heaven' for Dover sole.
Altos de Oliva Gran Reserva — $95.40
Our remarkable new Spanish discovery—fully mature and delicious red wine from the relatively unknown Terra Alta (The Highlands) of Catalonia, just South of Priorat. This Gran Reserva is made from very old vines (up to 100 years old), and has just been awarded a gold medal in Brussels. Really exceptional value and a very exciting wine—highly recommended especially at this price.
Domaine Gonon Macon-Villages — $107.40
Macon-Villages is an excellent and reliable source of good value white Burgundies. The appellation itself is comprised of 43 villages that lies within the broader Macon region (along with other appellations like Pouilly Fuisse). The landscape is made up of undulating hills of clay and limestone which lend the wines their minerality and fresh, zingy flavour.
Château Peyrabon Haut-Médoc — $209.70
Château Peyrabon, a Cru Bourgeois property whose vineyards are divided between the appellations of Haut-Médoc and Pauillac, is now considered one of the rising stars in the Haut-Médoc. This is largely due to the stewardship of its current owner, Patrick Bernard, who has invested heavily in the property since buying it in 1998. He is notoriously fanatical in his attention to every detail and has thus raised the wine to new heights. 2000 is arguably its finest wine to date.
Ananda di Toscana Tuscany — $203.40
In the 1970s Piero Antinori, whose family had been making wine for more than 600 years, decided to make a richer wine by eliminating the white grapes, and adding Bordeaux grape varieties (namely Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). The result was the first Super Tuscan, which he named Tignanello, after the vineyard where the grapes were grown. Other winemakers started experimenting with Super Tuscan blends of their own shortly thereafter.
Collalbrigo Brut Prosecco — $119.40
The Press 'One of the best sparklers I’ve tasted….this is delicately dry, full-flavoured, and a joy to drink on its own. It was discovered by the Cipriani family who serve it at their Locanda Cipriani on Torcello. It is, frankly, of Champagne quality at half the price.' — Simon Hoggart , The Spectator
Chateau Faîteau Minervois La Liviniére Languedoc — $119.40
Minervois is a fast improving appellation in western Languedoc that has gained a reputation for producing excellent value, characterful and supple red wines. In 1998, Minervois, and indeed the whole of Languedoc, gained its first cru-designated area when the Appellation Minervois la Liviniére Controlee was created. This small region covers about 200 hectares and is centred around four villages in the foothills of the Montagne Noir, the three most important of which are Siran, Cesseras and La Livinière...
Château Peyrabon | Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois — $167.40
The Cru Bourgeois are those Médoc properties that just failed to make the cut in the 1855 Classification of Classified Growths which graded just over 60 wines in the Médoc into 1st—5th growths based purely on the market price they were fetching at the time. Today this Classification, whilst remaining a guideline, is full of obvious anomalies. The better Cru Bourgeois should be included as classified growths but this would take the equivalent of an Act of Parliament in France and would be fought tooth...
Margaux | Margaux Bordeaux — $227.40
Following on from the stunning Margaux 2005 we have managed to secure a parcel of all the Margaux 2006 that was made—declassified wine from one of the most famous Cru Classes in Margaux. The 2006 is again a very serious, high class claret, that at this price is an unmissable bargain. The 2006 vintage in Bordeaux was 'very good (Robert Parker) and the wine, while already approachable, has at least a decade to go—if not more. Highly recommended—without reservation!
Sesti Buona Fede Montalcino — $155.40
In the middle ages, farmers relied on what is now known as bio-dynamics—planting by the seasons and phases of the moon (the pull of gravity, etc.) and using natural treatments to stimulate growth and repel insects and disease. Bio-dynamics came to the forefront again largely due to the Austrian scholar Rudolph Steiner in the first half of the 20th century as a reaction to intensive farming using synthetic chemicals, weed killers and insecticides. Bio-dynamic wine are made strictly by the laws of...
Tregole | Chianti Classico — $143.40
At last we have found a really good, estate-bottled Chianti Classico from the Conte family's estate 'Fattoria Tregole' just outside Castellina in Chianti. This is from the 2004 vintage which was hugely successful in Tucscany and is 100% Sangiovese—elegant, delicious and not over extracted as has been the recent trend. This is proper, high-class Chianti.
Château Sainte-Marie White Bordeaux — $107.40
Château Sainte-Marie, owned by the Dupuch family, lies in the heart of Entre-Deux-Mers, where making white wines has undergone a revolution in the past 20 years with advances in viticulture and vinification techniques. The better properties now make some of the best dry wines in France—very different from the wine that our grandmothers used to save especially for the Vicar!
Boirà | Pinot Grigio — $107.40
The grapes are grown without any chemical fertilizers, weed killers, insecticides and other synthetic chemicals. This wine has been certified by the ICEA—Instituto per la Certicazione Etica ed Ambientale—as complying with organic farming methods which have 'great ethical, social and environmental relavance.' Good for the planet—and the drinker!
Castello di Potentino ‘Piropo IGT Toscana — $155.40
In the 1970s Piero Antinori, whose family had been making wine for more than 600 years, decided to make a richer wine by eliminating the white grapes, and adding Bordeaux grape varieties (namely Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). The result was the first Super Tuscan, which he named Tignanello, after the vineyard where the grapes were grown. Other winemakers started experimenting with Super Tuscan blends of their own shortly thereafter.
Domaine les Eminades Sortilége Saint Chinian — $107.40
The appellation Saint Chinian is northwest of Beziers in the Languedoc-Roussillon. It is beautiful, rugged countryside sheltered by the foothills of the Cevennes. Vines were first planted here in the 9th century and the wine made by monks. The appellation now has 3300 hectares of vines producing better and better wines—mainly big full-bodied reds which compliment the local dish, Lapin au Moutard.
Boirà Sangiovese — $95.40
Marche is the eastern most point in the central belt of Italy running from Tuscany through Umbria to the Adriatic coast. Whilst sharing a similar topography and temperate climate with its neighbours to the west, Le Marche has in fact been one of the last regions in central Italy to realize its potential for excellent quality wines, but there is a lot of growing excitement. Many are convinced that this region is able to produce red wines that are more comparable to the famous Super-Tuscans from the...
Rosso del Palazzone — $119.40
Il Palazzone run under the guidance of renowned oenologist Paolo Vagaggini, has picked up numerous accolades and is now considered one of the very finest of the Brunello producers. The Rosso has all the rich and complex flavours of a Brunello but for less than a third of the price—it is a stunning bargain at under £10 a bottle and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.
Pauillac | AC Pauillac — $227.40
A stunning & exclusive parcel of declassified wine from one of Pauillac's greatest super-second growths whose vineyards border Chateau Latour from the very good and attractive 2006 vintage. Beautifully made, rich and already beginning to drink well, this is a wine that will grace any table as very high class Claret—at a fraction of the price its quality and origin would suggest. Why buy expensive names when you can drink this we all asked ourselves? Highly recommended by us all. Available also in...
Aloxe-Corton "Beloix" Côte de Beaune — $227.40
After the success of the 2005 the Janny family have let us have all the 2006 vintage—only 75 cases—from the tiny Beloix vineyard of 1/2 hectare. The 2004 & 2005 vintages sold out very quickly indeed so we dont expect this to last long. This is wonderfully rich, ripe, very fine red Burgundy that is drinking well now and will continue to improve for another 5 years. The 2006 vintage is very good indeed. We would have taken 10 times this amount had it been made. A spectacular tiny parcel of great red...
Mirabel Extremadura — $179.40
Classically dark red garnet and bright with soft mellow fruit flavours. A delicious mouthful of rich, ripe fruit—sophisticated and well-balanced. Cherries and summer fruit. The second glass is even better. Very high quality, well made wine. This is a wine that unfortunately will be very much more expensive when it gets the recognition it deserves and surely will (his cousin Peter Sisseck makes Pingus, now one of the great—and very expensive—wines of the modern world).
Coupage | Ribera del Guadiana, Crianza — $107.40
The first vine in what is now the region protected by the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Guadiana (translates as "the Shore of the Guadiana") was cultivated as early as 6,000 B.C., possibly in the Mesopotamian Age, but the production really began to take off during the Roman Period, when the first professionals began to specialize in the production of Ribera del Guardiana.
Marco Real Rosé Navarra — $83.40
For a long time the wine trade in Navarra consisted of large cooperatives producing Grenache-based pinks for fairly local consumption but the last 10 years has brought with it great change. Grenache has now been eclipsed by Tempranillo, the grape made so famous in neighbouring Rioja, as the preponderant variety; there has been a movement away from cooperatives to small, family run estates turning out very high quality but affordable rosados and red wines that are finding an enthusiastic market around...
Domaine Bernard Fleuriet Sancerre Rouge — $143.40
The soil in Sancerre, depending on the location is made up of clay, limestone, Kimmeridgean marne, gravel and flint. The limestone in particular helps to give the reds a mineral crispness that is less common in the Pinot Noirs from Burgundy. The reds are superb served young and are often drunk in France slightly chilled, though they do have the capacity to age and can acquire the same savory notes as mature Burgundies.
The Vintage Tasting Case — $134.00
A remarkable and delicious find from the Tagonius winery just outside Madrid, this is even better than their 2004 vintage. After tasting hundreds of moderate wines, a discovery like this makes it all worthwhile! Up until now this wine has only really found its way to the best restaurants in Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastien. It is a far better wine than anything we have tasted so far from neighbouring Rioja. Robert Parker rightly sings its praises—it is remarkable value for money.
Domaine de la Tourade “Font des Aïeux Gigondas — $179.40
Highly reputed for its wines from Roman times, the best wines are remarkably similar to good Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and like them, made from the Grenache grape with Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes making up to 15%. Full-bodied, peppery Rhône wine.
Ruffin et Fils Cuvée de Reserve | Case of 12 — $112.20
This delicious and incredibly affordable new champagne comes from the family run house of Ruffin on the hillside of Etoges. It is pale in colour with a full and expressive bouquet, characterised by fresh citrus fruits and hints of pastry. This is another wonderful single grower champagne that we will be drinking lots of this Christmas. Also comes in Magnums and halves.
Laurent-Perrier | Champagne | Case of 24 — $180.00
One of winemaker Alain Terrier’s personal favourites, this Champagne is made with a sugar-free dosage giving it a wonderful bone-dry and incredibly refreshing style. Using a sugar free dosage requires extreme care and skill: the grapes must come exclusively from very ripe harvests and bunch selection must be rigorous so as to ensure that only the grapes with high sugar levels and low acidity are retained. A stunning Champagne with several years ahead of it and perfect for those who often find Champagne...
Laurent-Perrier | Champagne 37.5cl Half-Bottle — $165.00
One of winemaker Alain Terrier’s personal favourites, this Champagne is made with a sugar-free dosage giving it a wonderful bone-dry and incredibly refreshing style. Using a sugar free dosage requires extreme care and skill: the grapes must come exclusively from very ripe harvests and bunch selection must be rigorous so as to ensure that only the grapes with high sugar levels and low acidity are retained. A stunning Champagne with several years ahead of it and perfect for those who often find Champagne...
Rocca di Tufo 2007 Orvieto Classico — $119.40
The Dubini family bought the Palazzone Estate in Umbria in the late 1960s with it in a complete state of dilapidation. They quickly reconstructed the abandoned casa colonica on the property for use as a family home and planted 25 hectares of vines. Their first small vintage was produced by the second generation, Giovanni and Ludovico, in 1982 and since then, through hard work and great attention to detail (all grapes are hand-picked with extraordinary care), they have managed to turn Palazzone into...
Laurent-Perrier | Champagne | Case of 3 — $157.50
One of winemaker Alain Terrier’s personal favourites, this Champagne is made with a sugar-free dosage giving it a wonderful bone-dry and incredibly refreshing style.
Markus Molitor Riesling Trocken Mosel-Saar-Ruwer — $107.40
Riesling is undoubtedly one of the worlds most misunderstood and underrated grape varieties. Originating from the Rhine region, Riesling is currently grown in Germany, Austria, eastern France, northern Italy, Australia, New Zealand and other regions that have a relatively mild climate, producing a an extraordinary range from bone dry to viscous sweet wines.
Olga Raffault Les Barnabés — $107.40
These red wines, along with other Cabernet Franc wines from around the Loire Valley, are extremely popular in restaurants around France but are yet to be exported on a large scale. Grown on limestone, gravel and sand soils the wines tend to be refreshing, light to medium bodied and often heavily scented with good fruit and acidity.
Clos des Juillys Saint-Véran — $155.40
This St-Véran, made in the vaulted cellars of a small Louis XIV chateau, is we think quite exceptional. It gets the top rating, a coup de coeur, in the 2009 Guide Hachette des Vins and drinks like a fine white Burgundy from a far grander appellation. 2006 was a very good vintage for white Burgundy but unfortunately they only have a very small amount left so snap it up while you can.
Mas Carlot Cuvée Tradition Costières de Nîmes, Rhône — $83.40
Mas Carlot is situated in the south of the Rhône Valley, extending across 76 hectares of pebbly land southeast of Nîmes. Originally a 17th century farm, this beautiful estate was resurrected in the 1960's by the Blanc family—it is currently run by Natalie Blanc-Mares and her husband, Cyril Mares of the neigbouring and equally reputable property, Mas Bressades.
Churchill’s Late Bottled Vintage Port Oporto — $71.70
Johnny Graham of the Grahams port family founded Churchill’s in the 1980s, the first new Port Shippers in Oporto for 100 years. Johnny is acknowledged as the best blender and taster of port in the business and his 'boutique' firm produces some of the best and most individual ports made today. His 2001 LBV which is unfiltered is a cut above those produced by the big shippers. It is rich—and highly recommended as being as close to traditional vintage port as you will get at a fraction of the price.
Pommard Galignan Côte de Beaune — $263.40
Pommard, one of the classic Burgundy appellations is a small village in the Côte de Beaune district of the Côte d’Or. The vines here, which almost exclusively produce Pinot Noir grapes, grow on steep uneven slopes of clay-dominated soil, which climb high into scrub covered hills. The resultant wines tend to be well structured, meaty, and more powerful and tannic than other Pinot Noirs from the neighbouring appellations. This means that whilst Pommards can be drunk young they also have excellent...
The Grand Cru Tasting Case — $210.00
After the success of the 2005 the Janny family have let us have all the 2006 vintageonly 75 casesfrom the tiny Beloix vineyard of 1/2 hectare.
La Reserve Claret — $95.40
Our house claret selected from Saint Emilion vineyards and blended exclusively for us by larger than life Jonathan Maltus, producer of Château Teyssier and Le Dôme, one of Saint Emilion’s greatest (and most expensive) wines. This is a really superb everyday wine and is much more than just a normal claret.
Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino — $354.00
Produced in the fairly arid vineyards surrounding the Tuscan town of Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino has long been thought of as one of Italys most prestigious wines. It is made from a superior clone of the Sangiovese grape, Sangiovese Grosso, and in 1980 it was awarded the first Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) designation.
Domaine Octavie, Sauvignon Touraine 2008 — $83.40
Centred around the city of Tours, Touraine is the most important wine region in the Loire. It produces a fine selection of reds, from such renowned appellations as Bourgueil, Chinon and St-Nicolas-de-bourgueil, and whites, from Vouvray and Montlouis. The soil and climate varies greatly throughout, as do the grape varieties: Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Pinot Gris, Malbec and perhaps most famously Sauvignon Blanc are all grown in this relatively...
Saint-Véran “Merloix” | White Burgundy — $119.40
The nose oozes with honey and butterscotch aromas. It is full bodied, has good acidity and is well balanced with a lingering and lasting finish. Hints of bananas and passion fruit. This is a serious wine that competes with white Burgundies many times its price and is drinking really well now. Poached turbot with Hollandaise would go really well with this wine!
The Drinking Claret Case — $195.00
The Sichel family home and vineyard at d'Angludet in Margaux receives very special loving care and attention from the owners of Château Palmer and other vineyards—and produces wonderful wines from aged vines. The terroir at d'Angludet is why Bordeaux is centre of the fine wine industry—and always will be. Margaux normally produces more delicate and scented wines than its more northerly neighbours in the Medoc—and 2001 is a good, rich vintage, just beginning to drink really well now. This is a firm...
The Spectator Mixed Case — $120.20
Finally one of FVDs specialties—over production of wine from great estates which cant legally be sold under its real name has to hide under a generic title, in this case of Pauillac 2006. They cannot say, but we can, that this is real Pichon Longueville Baron, made under the auspices of Christian Seeley. While the £18.65 price might seem a lot, you would pay up to four times as much if it has the rightful Pichon Baron label. It is already lovely, but will keep for years, and is delicious now if...
Clos du Portail Graves Supérieures, Bordeaux — $71.40
To produce naturally botrytized wines one needs a temperate climate with misty mornings and warm afternoons in the autumn. Sauternes, based as it is at the confluence of the rivers Ciron and Garonne, has the ideal mesoclimate for noble rot and not surprisingly produces the very best, and most expensive, sweet wines in the world—In 2006 a 135-year "vertical" of Chateau d’Yquem (containing every vintage from 1860 to 2003) was sold at auction in London for $1.5 million, one of the highest prices ever...
Les Mines Priorat — $191.40
Priorat is a small, isolated region, located slightly west of Tarragona in Catalonia, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Barcelona. Its trump card is its unique soil, known as llicorella . This is a dark slate which sparkles in the high sun from the quartzite that runs through it. The climate is ideal for fine wine production, with hot days and cool nights during the growing season. Low rainfall levels force the vines to root deeply into the soil to find a steady but controlled water supply...
Montagny Premier Cru "Meline" Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy — $143.40
Montagny lies in the Côte Chalonnaise, a narrow strip of land in Burgundy that is sandwiched between the Côte d'Or to the north and the Mâconnais to the south. It remains exclusively a white wine producer with just over 260ha of Chardonnay planted on clay-limestone soils, producing crisp, complex and minerally wines with a dry finish.

Romain Bouchard Chablis 1er Cru Vau de Vey — $203.40

Pouilly Fuissé “Margolliets” | White Burgundy — $177.00
A tiny appellation—875 hectares—from the tiny villages of Fuissé, Chaintre, Solutre-Pouilly and Vergisson near Macon. Clay and limestone combine to make rich and luscious wines. There are no premiers crus. The locals recommend it with Banon and Picodan cheese as well as shellfish. We recommend it on its own!
Domaine de la Motte Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy — $155.40
The Classification within Chablis is very carefully regulated—the very best wines from one hill overlooking Chablis are Grand Cru and their wines rank among the Worlds finest white wine, Les Clos being perhaps the best known. The next level are 1er Cru—from the slopes of other hills and villages within the Chablis region—some of the best are Vaillons, Fourchame, Beauroy and Vau du Vey. This is where the best value for money Chablis are to be found. Beneath the 1er cru is Chablis itself and Petit...
