This Slit Drum measures 20" X 8" and produces a wonderfully resonant sound with varying pitches depending on where you strike to drum. One side of the drum is carved flat for easy positioning and playing on a flat surface. Other Slit Drums without the flat side tend to roll around on you while playing.

Slit drums such as this are used, along with other instruments, to accompany dancing and to announce the arrival of dignitaries to the village. This particular one shows clear signs of extensive use, giving it a great deal of visual interest.
