Camille Monet in the Garden - By Claude Monet - Claude Monet was born in Paris on November 14, 1840 but all his impressions as a child and adolescent were linked to Le Havre, the town where his family moved in 1845. As a child, Monet painted caricature portraits and exhibited them in an art supply store. Eventually Monet was convinced to become a landscape painter. In the late 1880's his paintings began to attract the attention of both the public and critics, which brought him comfort and even wealth.

Portrait of Claude Monet - Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges in 1841 and brought up in Paris. At the age of thirteen he worked as an apprentice painter, painting flowers on ceramic plates. In the 1870's Renoir's Impressionism style reached it's peak. He worked in Argenteuil and in Paris. He participated in Impressionist exhibitions and was a founding member of the review L'Impressionniste, where he published his article on the principles of contemporary art.
