The White Button Mushroom is the most widely cultivated mushroom in the USA. The caps of the mushrooms at the "button stage" are typically 1-3", but if left to mature the caps can reach a size of 5-8" in diameter. Our White Button Mushroom kit produce abundant quantities of this delicious variety. Crops grow back every 10-14 days until the mushroom kit uses up all the nutrients. You will harvest approximately 4 pounds of mushrooms in about a 3 month time period.

The common store mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, (also known as "commercial mushroom" and "button mushroom") was first cultivated on horse manure heaps in France in the 1700s. It is still grown this way. Until recently it was the main mushroom cultivated in the United States.

Although button mushrooms have been enjoyed by people around the world for millennia, it was not until the 17th century that they began to be cultivated.

The White Button (Agaricus Brunnescens) is the most frequently used of all Mushrooms. Also, called "Champignon", they've been cultivated by the French since the 1700's. Today, the United States is the largest grower of cultivated White Button Mushrooms. The Champignon retains it's shape well when cooked, although they do shrink a little in size. The Champignon has a mild flavor and firm texture and comes in sliced form. The Champignon absorbs flavors well in any dish.
