Collectible Thimbles
M.I. Hümmel figurines were created by a simple Bavarian girl whose name was Berta Hümmel. Berta gained her artistic direction at an early age from the institute of English Sisters. In 1931, Berta entered the convent of Siessen at Saulgua. Two years later she was ordained Sister Maria Innocentia. In 1933, sketches of her work were sent to a publishing company in Munich. Her first artworks were two-dimensional, better knows as "postcards." |

Vintage CEDAR WOOD Collectible THIMBLE
Many different cultures have used wood thimbles, from the Native Americans and ancient Chinese up to today's modern day woodturning craftsmen. Although thimbles made entirely of wood are uncommon these days, they have existed for ages, and were probably among the first type of thimbles ever made. Today they have become more of a highly sought after collector’s item, as a thimble made of wooden is usually decades old and has been passed down through generations. Use of a wooden thimble is the same... |

Vintage SPODE Bone China BLUE BUTTERFLIES Collectible Thimble (c. 1989)
Spode underwent several name changes, according to von Hoelle, until William Copeland's son, Josiah's partner, took over the company in 1833 and from 1847 the name of the firm was Copeland. This name reverted to Spode in 1970 and thimbles were made in Stoke-on-Trent, England of fine bone china, from 1974. Spode became part of Royal Worcester in 1986, but still produced thimbles with the Spode backstamp. Sadly, production of Spode thimbles was discontinued in 1993. |

Vintage HOLLOHAZA Porceliain Bone China Collectible Thimble HUNGARY
Representative of the beginnings are wrought glass flasks and vessels, next to ornamented, though less sophisticated earthenware as used by the period peasant culture. From the late 19th century we see a more refined crockery adapted to the taste and the needs of the bourgeois with increasingly rich and colorful ornamentation. The first half of the 20th century is dominated by vernacular Hungarian motives including the influence of Secession. |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble BLACKBIRD Gold Trim
The Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) is a species of true thrush. It is also called Eurasian Blackbird (especially in North America, to distinguish it from the unrelated New World blackbirds), or simply Blackbird, where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species. It breeds in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand. It has a number of subspecies across its large range; a few of the Asian subspecies are sometimes considered... |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble BLUE JAY Gold Trim
The Blue Jay mainly feeds on nuts and seeds such as acorns, soft fruits, arthropods, and occasionally small vertebrates. It typically gleans food from trees, shrubs, and the ground, though it sometimes hawks insects from the air. It builds an open cup nest in the branches of a tree, which both sexes participate in constructing. The clutch can contain two to seven eggs, which are blueish or light brown with brown spots. Young are altricial, and are brooded by the female for 8–12 days after hatching... |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble CRANE Gold Trim
Most have elaborate and noisy courting displays or "dances". While folklore often states that cranes mate for life, recent scientific research indicates that these birds do change mates over the course of their lifetimes (Hayes 2005), which may last several decades. Cranes construct platform nests in shallow water, and typically lay two eggs at a time. Both parents help to rear the young, which remain with them until the next breeding season. Some species and populations of cranes migrate over... |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble CROW Gold Trim
American Crows are familiar over much of the continent: large, intelligent, all-black birds with hoarse, cawing voices. They are common sights in treetops, fields, and roadsides, and in habitats ranging from open woods and empty beaches to town centers. Crows usually feed on the ground and eat almost anything – typically earthworms, insects and other small animals, seeds, and fruit but also garbage, carrion, and chicks they rob from nests. Their flight style is unique, a patient, methodical flapping... |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble DOVE Gold Trim
With a flash of white tail feathers and a flurry of dark-tipped wings, the Eurasian Collared-Dove settles onto phone wires and fence posts to give its rhythmic three-parted coo. This chunky relative of the Mourning Dove gets its name from the black half-collar at the nape of the neck. A few Eurasian Collared-Doves were introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970's. They made their way to Florida by the 1980's and then rapidly colonized most of North America. |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble EAGLE Gold Trim
The Bald Eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782 and a spiritual symbol for native people for far longer than that. T hese regal birds aren’t really bald, but their white-feathered heads gleam in contrast to their chocolate-brown body and wings. Look for them soaring in solitude, chasing other birds for their food, or gathering by the hundreds in winter. Once endangered by hunting and pesticides, Bald Eagles have flourished under protection. |

Collectible Porcelain China Thimble EGRET Gold Trim
A large white heron, the Great Egret is found across much of the world, from southern Canada southward to Argentina, and in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It's the largest egret in the Old World, and thus has garnered the name Great White Egret. In the New World, however, the white form of the Great Blue Heron is larger. In the United States, the Great Egret used to be called the American Egret but that was hardly appropriate, since its range extends beyond the Americas and indeed farther... |

How do decal thimbles differ from those that are handpainted? A decal or transfer is applied to the blank thimble and the factory can then churn out more thimbles with identical patterns. Collectible Porcelain China Thimble FALCON Gold Trim
A falcon is any species of raptor in the genus Falco. The genus contains 37 species, widely distributed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. Adult falcons have thin tapered wings, which enable them to fly at high speed and to change direction rapidly. Fledgling falcons, in their first year of flying, have longer flight feathers which makes their configuration more like that of a general-purpose bird such as a broadwing. This makes it easier to fly while learning the exceptional skills required... |
