The Idea was to invite people on the show and then ask them a few questionable questions. This always led improvised and inspired comic interaction with the unsuspecting guests, the sub plot, which was almost incidental was a quiz show with an alleged goal of winning money!! Starting on the radio in 1947, "You Bet Your Life" made its television debut in 1950 and aired for 11 years with Groucho Marx as host and emcee alongside announcer George Fenneman. Sponsored (conspicuously) by Dodge DeSoto, the show featured contestants working as a team to answer questions for cash prizes. Contestants answered questions, tried to guess the secret word, and were sitting targets for Groucho's incredibly quick wit.
