The hot yellow color combines well with crocus and scilla bulbs
Like a pin wheel, these daisy-like flowers have a center of deep burgundy-red, and the petals are red with just a tinge of yellow at the outside edges. Gaillardia can be a challenge to overwinter in our short summers. They bloom right until freeze up and don’t get ‘ready’ for winter. In late summer cut the plant down to about 6 inches to encourage new basil growth hopefully to help overwinter. This particular gaillardia is advertised to be hardy to zone 2. Hmmm Priced to experiment. |

Scilla Siberica 24
In the early spring, large drifts of this scilla form deep carpets of blue. With a trowel or small shovel, an ambitious gardener can plant 200 of these little bulbs in less than an hour. Next spring, each bulb will send up one or more stems holding its prussian-blue flowers. Tiny seeds from the flowers quickly mature into more blooming-size bulbs. Because the foliage is slight, grass-like and unobtrusive, it disappears long before the grass is ready to mow. 125/sq. yd. |

Ledebouria 'Gary Hammer', Gary Hammer False Scilla-Plant Delights Nursery, Inc
This amazing form of the South African Ledebouria stenophylla (scilla relative) introduced by the late California plantsman, Gary Hammer, has proven to be reliable even through our wet, cold winters. The bulbs produce 1' long, deciduous, strap-like, grey-green leaves that are heavily spotted with random liver-colored patterns. Each easy-to-grow, 20" wide clump of Ledebouria stenophylla 'Gary Hammer' looks great in the summer rock garden or as a seasonal container plant in colder climates. |

Native to Portugal and Spain in the 17th century, this tender variety has a long-lasting, 6”, globe-shaped flower composed of over 100, compact, lavender-blue florets with thick, strappy, 12” foliage. At the flower’s crown, the florets are much more tightly compacted, giving the appearance of a little top cap. A Mediterranean climate lover, it prefers not-too-rich and very well-draining soil.
